Set up Wispr Flow for symptom journaling in 5 minutes
This guide configures system-wide dictation to log daily health observations directly into your notes app or health ledger.

Manually logging daily symptoms, mood, or diet is tedious, which means it often doesn't get done. Wispr Flow lets you dictate these entries into any app you already use for your health ledger, like Apple Notes or a Notion table. This setup takes the friction out of building a consistent health record.
Before you start
- A Wispr Flow account
- Your preferred note-taking app (e.g., Apple Notes, Obsidian)
- 5 quiet minutes
The steps
- 01
Install Wispr Flow
Download the Wispr Flow application for your OS. During installation, grant it the necessary accessibility and microphone permissions; this is required for it to capture your voice and paste the text into other applications.
- 02
Choose your activation phrase
In Wispr Flow’s settings, define a trigger phrase like "Okay Wispr" to start dictation. Choose something you won't say accidentally in conversation. This allows you to start logging a thought—like a symptom flare or a food reaction—without breaking your current task.
- 03
Dictate your first ledger entry
Open your chosen notes app to a new page. Activate Wispr Flow with your trigger phrase and dictate a simple entry, such as, "10 PM, left knee pain at a 4 out of 10, feels like a dull ache." This forms the 'Ledger' layer of your health-tracking system.
- 04
Add custom medical terms
If you use specific names for supplements, conditions, or protocols (e.g., "Ashwagandha," "Ehlers-Danlos," "Zonulin"), add them to Wispr’s custom vocabulary. This improves transcription accuracy for terms not in a standard dictionary, making your logs cleaner.
- 05
Dictate client session notes
For practitioners, this setup excels at capturing post-session thoughts directly into a client's file. After a call, activate Wispr and dictate, "Client reported improved sleep after magnesium glycinate protocol, consider adding L-theanine next." This can triple your administrative output speed compared to typing.
Honest note
Wispr Flow is a voice-to-text tool, not a structured data-entry system. It will not automatically tag or categorize your entries, and it can misinterpret uncommon words if they are not in your custom vocabulary. It is for capture, not analysis; do not mistake its fluency for medical understanding.
